Here’s an interview with Craig Newmark from earlier this month. Some interesting things about craigslist (according to their CEO Jim Buckmaster)

1. The site is serving up seven billion pageviews a month from 200 servers
2. All 24 employees work at a Victorian house in San Francisco
3. The company has never had a tech quit in 12 years
4. Craigslist never holds meetings.

I installed the Audio Player Wordpress plugin so we can easily embed mp3s into our posts.

To demonstrate, I’ll point you to episode 4 of the excellent Sound-Free podcast, which digs through a huge number of Creative Commons and netlabel releases and mixes the best stuff.

Perfect late night mix. Listening back, it reminds me of the days when I use to listen to late night radio, flicking between commercial FM stations and DJ’s with a licence to experiment (where did they go?). Hence some tracks that I’ve christened softrock-electronica, some fine 4-4 house and plenty of other oddments…

I promised Peliom that I would post a list of my favorite podcasts, so here it is!

• DJ Chang’s Buddha Hash Cafe – House music and other beaty styles, and always very fun. Chang has a absoutely contagious love of music!
• DJPJ’s Galactic Fractures – funk and soul from an extremely talented and dedicated DJ. Also on the air on WMFO Boston.
• Professor Vizuete’s Jazz Incognito – jazz from a connoisseur of improv and experimental styles. Also on the air at WCOM Carrboro NC.
• Coldcut podcast – hiphop and turntablism.
• Not a podcast, but DJ /rupture posts tons of mp3s from around the world on his blog.

I also listen to non-music podcasts from Learn Hindi From Bollywood Movies, which always cracks me up, This American Life, and RadioLab, which is like This American Life but with a science bent.

Shouldn’t TR have a podcast?

Update: I forgot to mention that Mixmaster Morris and friends post mp3s of his shows on the MMM tribe. Also, i found this on jace’s above-linked blog and am still laughing..

I’ve been listening to this ridiculous podcast called Learn Hindi From Bollywood Movies… I love it! The guy who does it, Arun Krishnan, does a great job. I LOLed several times!

John Lennon had once said that ‘all you need is love’. In this matter, love is indeed different from orange juice. For there is many a breakfast we have had without orange juice, but seldom have we been able to enjoy an egg that has not been fried under the steady gaze of a soulmate.

Neato. Odeo allows you to embed audio players on your site with feeds of your favorite podcasts so I’ve created a new tikirobot page of shows I like listening to. The only annoying thing is that the player prefaces every podcast title with the name of the channel (which seems unnecessary and prevents me from seeing the specific title of a podcast) Maybe I will write them about that. (okay, I think I’ve fixed somewhat by changing the default width of the players from 400px to 600px.) They seem to be using this open source media player XSPF over here. Anyways, you guys should add shows that you like too :-)
