If you’re looking for a coffee table…
For a long time now, I’ve wanted to come up with a way to make looking for used furniture on craigslist easier and less tedious. So last night, I came up with this.
If I had programming chops, I would have created some bot-thingy that automatically pulls stuff out of craigslist and formats it like you see on the site I came up with. But, since I have no programming chops, I used something called wists, which is a visual-bookmarking-tool that creates thumbnails of things I bookmark and organizes them into a nice little grid. It’s pretty neat. Although it’s still tedious for me to go through craigslist, since I have to bookmark something in order for it to appear on the site…but look! I’ve made it less tedious for you! :-)

Whoa! That is cool. You won’t believe this but I’m in need of a new coffee table. It’s true, the one we have is sad and will probably fall apart soon.
I wonder how hard it would be to add the automatic scanning bits. Hmmmm……
Sadly I’ll have to wait to look at coffee tables until September since New Zealand fast approaches, but I’ll be sure to bookmark this to see what you’ve found when I get back!
Nice work, May! I already fell in love with the low standing Japanese dining table. Beautiful! But maybe too low for Raj! Does this mean you have to constantly comb and update? Suddenly buying used furniture becomes even more fun than it already has been!
oops- that last one was me, not raj. how can I edit these comments?
yep, i have to comb and update (but I am looking for something right now anyways…maybe later I will figure out a way for it to update automagically. right now, you’re just getting stuff I think is interesting :-)
What about a greasemonkey script that replaces the ‘pic’ in CL listings with a thumbnail of the picture?
ooh, that would be cool!
hehe…greasemonkey.
seriously though, i am totally excited about using this when I move to san francisco! you rock may!
