Turn your iPod into a field recorder for $30..

I just bought a Griffin iTalk Pro, which is thirty bucks at Amazon. Apparently it can record 16-bit stereo WAV at 44.1 kHz. You can use built-in or external mics. I’ll let you know how it goes… too bad they don’t come in white!

Oooh 16 bit, 44.1k! CD quality! Seriously, why don’t these things let you record 24 bit, 96k…or at least 48 (to do pro stuff). I’m quite sure it’s not because of disk space!

If you set your iPod to dual-boot into iPodLinux, you can adjust the recording sample rate to be 8, 32, 44.1, 88.2, and 96kHz.

How come no 24-bit? And then there’s this: “In addition to recording, podzilla also allows you to play back your recordings; however, be aware it is a bit buggy.”

    Ummm…

From what I understand, you only have to boot linux to adjust the sampling rate. Then you can boot back into the normal ipod os for recording/playback..

    I guess the ipod’s ADC doesn’t support 24 or 48khz..
